ARTIST: Cathy Brady

 Born 1967, Hunter Valley A predominately self –taught Artist.


- Mediums include: Acrylic, Pencil, pen/ ink with watercolour & oils.

- Genres include: Portraiture, Still life & flowers,  Australian  flora & fauna, rainforests, waterfalls, seascapes & marine life

-Stylised Realism; Is the style that I am instantly recognised for.

1991 – Began actively painting, became member of the Newcastle Artists Society as well as the Newcastle Contemporary Artists Assoc. Showing within all local members shows around Newcastle areas

         -Began working via commission for works in portraiture; people & animals, seascapes, Australian scenes of waterfalls & Rainforests.

 

1992 – Highly Commended Awards  {Contemporary art} - Mattara Exhibition Newcastle.

          -Group Exhibition {The Nautical Art Show} at Lake Macquarie City Art Gallery.

 

1993 – Won 4 Commended Awards { 1- Contemporary  2- works on paper  1 – Miniature}

At the Mattara Art Exhibition, Newcastle.

          -Group Exhibition of 4 artists {Art with No Frills, An exhibition of paintings, photography & figure drawings.}a near sell out. at Ron Hartree Art Studios, Newcastle.

           -Demonstrating resident artist at ‘Valentine Arts & Crafts Fair’ which continued annually until 1997

 

1994 –Exhibited o body of works ‘Australian Reefs & Rainforests’– Reef Panorama Gallery Queensland.

        -Group Exhibition 3 artists {3 Females in the Foyer} at Lake Macquarie City Council hosted by Lake Macquarie City Gallery.

         - Western Art Show

         -Entrant Mattara Art Exhibition.

         -Demonstrating Artist at ‘Valentines Arts & Craft Fair’.

         -Demonstrating Artist at ‘Morpeth’s Artisan Fair’ hosted by the “Riverside Café Morpeth’

 

1995- Group Exhibition 4 artists {Art from Within, featuring paintings of the rainforest & the reef, Australian wildlife, glassware & sculptures.} held at Ron Hartree Art Studio Newcastle.

         -Demonstrating Artist at Valentine Arts & craft fair.

 

1996 – Ask to be Solo artist to have painting displayed in Exhibition Entrance to ‘Wilderness Photographic Show’ Sydney.

          -Spent the majority of the year working on a staggering number of orders for portraits. (163}

 

1997 – 2004 {Time out to Raise a child}. Tutoring privately in my home studio did some demonstrating, while also worked developing, refining my own personal style & painting techniques.

 

2005 Began taking commissions again, in portraiture and murals in people’s homes.

          -Collections of works were donated to Raise money for the John Hunter Hospital, Children’s Burns Unit.  These were auctioned via a once off Charity Art Auction held in Merewether RSL Newcastle. A few of these paintings from Auction were kindly donated to the J.H.H Children’s Burn unit ward where they still hang today.

 

2006 – Continued with portrait commissions. 

           -Highly commended {for Drawing pen and ink} at the Mattara Art Exhibition Newcastle.

           -Entrant ‘Western Art Prize’

           - Exhibited ‘Christian Art show’ St Johns Anglican Church Newcastle.

           -Group Student Exhibition, in conjunction with The Main Exhibition - View of Maitland From the Riverbank {with apologies to J Vermeer & View of Delft}- at Maitland Art Gallery.

           -Attended WEA Life Drawing classes

           -Attended WEA ‘Oil painting a portrait in a day’ class

           -Was nominated by WEA Hunter for Student of the Year award, won Outstanding Student in Creative Arts for 2006.

           -Became member of ‘Maitland Artist Society’

 

2007 - Farrow Wyatt Maitland Art Prize, Won Highly Commended for drawing in Pen ink & watercolour View of Maitland. {Drawing section}

         –  Entrant into the 2007 Archibald Portrait Prize with portrait of J.B.Cummings.

         - Portrait painted of Councillor Laurie Maher, Mayor of Gosford City for Charity Art Fund Raiser hosted by Rotary Club of Umina Beach with precedes raised going to Coast Shelter.

         - Interviewed by ABC radio Gosford with Mayor Comments on his portrait on opening night.

         - Entrant - Raymond Terrace Art Prize. (Won H.C Works on Paper)

         - Community Gallery Exhibition Lorn Gallery ‘Fur Feathers & Fins’

         - Continued for filling commissions of portraits. (Christmas)

         - Works displayed at Buchannon Gallery

 

2008 – Begun  creating new body of works in the Still life Genre that was Exhibited August with fellow Artist and friend Maria Kozaczynski Mc Caig & Robert McCaig. At - Studio 48, New Lambton Newcastle– ‘Just Not Still Life’

         - Exhibited at ‘Bishop Tyrrell Artisan Fair’

         - Entrant; Raymond Terrace Art Prize (Highly Commended)

         - Entrant; Newcastle Mattara Art Show

         - Community Exhibition Lorn Gallery ‘CATS’

         - Commission’s orders for Christmas.

         - Tutored three days per week throughout this year.

         - Works can be found at – Buchannon Gallery & Studio 48 Newcastle

 

2009 – Tutoring resumed at start of School term teaching twice a week. Allowing myself more time to paint.

           - Entrant ‘Maitland Art Prize’ Local Section.

           - Beresfield Rotary Art show –{ Highly Commended}

           - April ‘Maitland Arts Society Group Show’ Lorn Gallery. (SOLD OUT)

           - May / June community art exhibition Lorn Gallery ‘Greetings from Lorn’ of collection of works celebrating the mail.

          - July; ‘Group Exhibition’ Morning Tea’ (Raising funds for cancer) Studio 48

           - August 23rd – 30th; ‘Guest Artist {Demonstrator & Exhibitor} at Morpeth Gallery - Campbell’s Store, For Morpeth’s Teapot Festival’  {Commissions received}

           - August; Father O’Rielly ‘Youth off the Streets” Works donated for Charity Art Auction.

           - September 5th – Oct 4th; Group Exhibition ‘Marea Kozaczynski-McCaig, with Robert McCaig  & Myself  ‘TRILOGY II’  @ Lorn Gallery

         - September; Bishop Tyrell Arts Fair

         -  October; worked on commissions & continued teaching classes.

         -November; Entrant to Community Show at Lorn Gallery show ends Dec 12th.

         - December; Working on Commissions for Christmas,

         - Dec; Received letter from 'Artist Palette Magazine' will be feature Artist in issue 83. March 2010

         - Dec; Booked for 'Art Week' as Watercolour Workshops Tutor to be held Central Coast 2010
